Friendly Fires recently spoke to The Daily Record and spoke about some of their new material and the direction that they are going to go with on their second album. This is what frontman Ed Macfarlane told the Daily Record:
We have finished four songs completely and we are really pleased with them, they’re better than the first record for sure. We are trying to balance it out between writing as much as we can and rehearsing the new stuff to get it ready for shows and things.
I really hope we are not going to do what MGMT did. Whatever it is they have done, we want to steer well clear of it. I don’t understand why they would make such a leap, go from great pop songs to just any old acoustic music played in anyone’s bedroom.”
It sounds great, they only thing I have a problem with is the criticism of MGMT. The band had one album of which no one seems to particularly remember the songs that weren’t singles (‘Time To Pretend’, ‘Kids’, and “Electric Feel’), if you listen to “Oracular Spectacular” and “Congratulations” you’ll notice the second half of their debut shares the same sound as this album. But anyway good to hear they are already recording new music.
