Sufjan Stevens Wins Award for 'The BQE'

Sufjan Stevens has been awarded the Brendan Gill Prize for ‘The BQE’. The awarded is presented by the Municipal Arts Society. Sufjan performed ‘The BQE’ last year in November at BAM. According to Asthmatic Kitty: “The prize was created by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in 1986 and is awarded annually. Ms. Kennedy Onassis said of the prize, it will acknowledge a “creator of a building, book, essay, poem, lyric, song, composition, play, painting, sculpture, choreography, landscape or any work of art which best captures the energy, vigor, and verve of our incomparable city.” He is the first musician to win the prize. Sufjan has also been busy scoring Natalie Portman’s new short film and is probably working on another state album, I hear he already has songs about New Jersey, Rhode Island and Oregon.
