As you may have guessed from the title 4AD is going to be releasing the Red Hot compilation I reported back in May. If you don’t remember the compilation was being curated by Aaron and Bryce Dessner of the National and will many of today’s best indie musicians. The compilation has been named “Dark Was the Night”. It will be released in February 2009 and will have 32 exclusive songs that will packaged in 2 CDs or 3 LPs. Some of the musicians and acts featured will be: Antony (with Bryce Dessner), Belle and Sebastian’s Stuart Murdoch, Andrew Bird, Blonde Redhead, Bon Iver, The Books with Jose Gonzalez, Bright Eyes, My Brightest Diamond (covering “Feeling Good”, famously interpreted by Nina Simone), Sigur Rós offshoot Riceboy Sleeps, Sufjan Stevens, Feist with Grizzly Bear, Feist with Ben Gibbard, Grizzly Bear by themselves, the Decemberists, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, the National with Nico Muhly, David Byrne and Dirty Projectors, Spoon, the New Pornographers, and TV on the Radio’s David Sitek. I’m really looking forward to listening to some of these songs.

Along time ago all the way back in 2006 before Grizzly Bear released the spectacular “Yellow House”, they made a song for a compilation titled “Help Wanted” by the bi-annual magazine, Esopus. For this compilation Esopus had “asked 10 musicians to scour job listings and then write a song inspired by one of them.” Grizzly Bear’s contribution was mostly instrumental, vocals are not heard until 3:53 in the song. Judging by the lyrics the job listing that they found that inspired the song was probably for a dishwasher. For more information about the compilation go here. It starts off slowly and begins to pickup at around a minute. Throughout the track various instruments are heard layered to make the song; guitar, piano, banjo are some of the most easily heard. The song sounds like it would fit along with the other tracks on “Yellow House” but it still unfinished. You can download the song below. UPDATE: Seems like this is the track ‘Granny Dinner’ released on their “Friend EP”, makes me me feel like I wasted so much time. After all I had to track down the song.
